IAQ - indoor air quality

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)... Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can damage their health but may not know that indoor air pollution can also have significant effects. EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor air pollutants are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. more...

Homes that are insulated with Better Insulation, are more environmentally friendly... For instance, it requires 59 times more energy to produce fiberglass insulation in glass melting gas furnaces than it does to produce Cellulose Insulation from recycled newspaper. more...

It is important, when considering any purchase, to think about environmental impact. Pollution that is caused during the manufacture of materials directly affects you... See our chart on the environmental impact of the competing insulations during manufacture. more...

If fiberglass insulation is so outdated and dangerous to your health and is such a drain on the environment, why do so many building contractors still use it? Good question. There really is no excuse for contractors to be using outdated Insulation Technologies. Other than financial considerations (greed) and a total disregard for your health and energy bills. Of course, they aren't the ones paying your utility bills. more...

The Indoor Air Quality Association... Mission Statement - The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) is a nonprofit, multi-disciplined organization, dedicated to promoting the exchange of indoor environmental information, through education and research, for the safety and well being of the general public. more...

COTU... In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. more...

health concerns (from fin)

US Department of Health & Human Services adds Fiberglass to the list of probable carcinogens... 5/15/2000 - United States Department of Health and Human Services, National Toxicology Program has just released Ninth Annual Report on Carcinogens.  Conclusion: Fiberglass is still "reasonably anticipated to cause cancer in humans."

Victims of Fiberglass - Five Years Later...
Five years after the Victims of Fiberglass group helped place fiberglass on a list of substances for priority action by the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), fiberglass lobbyists cut a deal with the federal government. The agreement precludes formal regulations in exchange for industry's acceptance of a weak exposure standard and more or less voluntary compliance.  Exposure monitoring is the responsibility of producers and end users. We provide a verbatim copy of the press release. Like trusting the wolf to watch the sheep is how we read it.

Real Life horror stories of families victimized by fiberglass... We aren't making this up! Fiberglass is just plain dangerous to use and have in your home. Read a couple of real life experiences these families had. You can now test your home or workplace for fiberglass contamination. more...

Energy Saving Tips

Consider unplugging consumer electronics when they are not in use. (Even when turned off, CD players in the U.S. consume enough energy in one year to power the Las Vegas Strip for six months.)

Change out incandescent lights bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.

Close drapes and shades to keep direct sunlight out and lower your cooling costs.

And of Course, Utilize Better Insulation in your home and save!
